THE BATHS...

They say the water in the baths is so contaminated that people shouldn't even touch it!
At least the ducks can enjoy the warm water!

These are some of the many ring faces they've found in the pools. They supposed the glue used to adhere the stones melted from the warm water causing the faces to fall off, without the owners realizing it. It was very common for the original rings to be used as wax seals as well!

This is one of the original mosaic floors...a very primitive version of a seahorse I guess!

...and some more familiar bands of the time.

I love the way this photograph was framed! This is looking out a window onto one of the outdoor baths that wasn't open to the public. The "Pump Room" looks out onto this area.

This is one of the decorative portals where the water entered the various aqueducts that delivered water to the different baths in the complex.
(It's about the size of a pizza oven, for perspective.)

Here is one of the aqueducts. The opening there is about 3 feet high.

This is looking onto the main outdoor bath from the surrounding covered halls.

The old floors were elevated with these tile pillars that you see,
so that the warm water could run below, naturally heating the floor.
The block just below the red paint would have been the original floor.

The modern window above is where the pump is located.
Drinks of the pure water are offered here, but I chose to skip this taste test!
